Just because you can move your body to an extreme position, it does not necessarily mean that you should. Pilates and core stability is all about control. Learning to come off the gas builds awareness of your body position and makes the muscles work through the full range of motion. This will also help the muscle build more endurance for prolonged activites and functionality.
When you think about the purpose of the exercise that you are doing, always ask yourself whether you are achieving it, or trying too hard to jump ahead to the next level. When you master the 'Less is more' approach to Pilates, you will begin to recognise, the deep core stabilising muscles finally getting the chance to be involved, without the threat of over dominant muscles taking over.
